tuners, 3x cones
Now available on consignment, an original 1928 National Style 3 Tri-cone square neck, serial no. 581.
This is a gorgeously well kept, early example of the second highest grade model in the National Hawaiian style of guitars, featuring hand engraved Lily of the Valley designs on the front, back, and sides of the instrument, a mahogany headstock, 3 hand-spun aluminium cones, and pearl logo & inlays.
This guitar, despite being well used, retains most of its original components, aside from the three cones, which are genuine, but not original to the instrument, and replaced tuners, which are nevertheless, period correct gold plated Waverly tuners with pearl buttons. Included are a series of steel slides purchased and used by the original owner. It has suffered no head breaks, and only one small dent, which these guitars sometimes suffer from, and very minor loss of plating. The fretboard exhibits some pitting, to be expected on a Hawaiian instrument, but this obviously does not affect playability.
Cosmetically, this Tricone is in very good shape, there is a small amount of wear on the bridge cover-plate, but aside from that there is almost no corrosion present, nor any serious damage to the body or headstock.
This is overall truly a stunning instrument, sounding strident and loud, as clear-voiced and distinctive as all National Tricones do. It is set up with a set of 12-56 strings, and comes with some paraphernalia from the original owner, namely some slide bars, and an original promo photo featuring the original owner, tucked away in the original hard shell case, which, though having a broken, is also in very good condition.
