Now available on consignment, a 1970 Gibson SG Standard in cherry.
This is a nice example of a used but very original Gibson SG, featuring a single piece Mahogany body, and a chunky 3-piece Mahogany neck with no 'made in USA' stamp and a small volute. Other specifications include chrome plated hardware, two unopened patent no. sticker humbuckers, the 'Lyre' vibrola, batwing guard, and 1&9/16" nut width.
The only modification on this guitar is at some point the frets were filed down, despite this it does play without significant buzzing, though a re-fret would be optimal to bring it back to ideal playing condition. Otherwise the guitar retains all its original hardware right down to the strap buttons, screws, and nylon saddles. The original finish caused a second thought or two to fly around the shop when this guitar arrived, but it is all original just appears to have had a few coats at the factory. The pickups and wiring remain completely untouched, with the four original CTS pots dating to the 10th week of 1970.
Cosmetically this guitar has a few marks of age, including finish checking throughout the body and neck. There is one decent chunk of lacquer taken out of the back of the neck around the 4th fret, however this doesn't affect playability.
Overall this is a light and lively example of an early 70s batwing guard SG.
Recently strung with 10-46 strings, it includes its original Gibson hardcase.
