Now here is a guitar you dont see often, a 1962 Gibson Les Paul Custom with its factory ebony block vibrola. From what I can find only 20-30 LP/SG Customs were made with this tremolo system making this a pretty rare opportunity.

This guitar was originally sold out of the Phillipines, which explains the heavy finish checking and corrosion on the gold parts. The guitar shows extensive play wear and some yellowing/nicotine staining of the original finish, there is also a phone number etched near the original serial number.

Work to the guitar includes:

  • The guitar had some poor repairs when I purchased it, I have since had expert luthier Piers Crocker in Sydney touchup and repair the neck heel, and around the input jack and control cavity.
  • The pickups have been replaced with a  a '65 patent number in the bridge position, a 68 t top in the centre and a 90s '57 Classic in the neck. All three 3 original worn gold pickup covers remain from the PAFs.
  • The wiring harness has been modified with Gibson 500k pots from 1973, and a later 1960s input jack. There is also some added shielding paint in the pickup/control cavities.
  • The guitar has been refretted with a new nut quite some time ago looking at the fretwear. Around the same time touchup was applied to the paint/binding splitting along the fretboard  which is common on this model.

Otherwise this guitar retains all of its original gold hardware with the exception of a few screws, as well as all period correct plastics. The guitar has been professionally setup and plays great with a low action and a slimmer feeling '62 neck profile.

Comes in its original worn Gibson case which is solid however is missing its handle.
