Now available, a lightweight and fantastic sounding 1963 Fender Precision Bass in a very old nitrocellulose cherry refinish with gold plated parts.

This bass has been known with this finish for at least the past 40 years, seeing A LOT of play time in its early life as is evident in the photos.

After some investigation, it seems this bass originally shipped in custom colour Fiesta Red after finding small traces of this colour in the neck pocket and control cavity. The original 3 ply nitrate celluloid guard is in good shape, which also supports this bass shipping as a custom colour instrument new.

The hardware has been replated gold including the bridge plate and saddles, the neckplate, knobs and covers.

Work to the bass includes:

- Tuners are later issue gold plated units, and the rest of the hardware has been replated.

- At one point a strap button was drilled through the neckplate, this has previously been repaired and replated gold. Most of the screws are later replacements as are the strap buttons.

- The neck was refretted long ago with a new nut, there is plenty of life in the frets.

- The neck has had clear overspray of the original finish and original decal, this was done decades ago evident by the aging of the lacquer.

- Being a working bass the original wiring and pots were replaced at some point, a set of period '63 pots have been installed with fresh cloth wiring recently.

- A thumb rest was installed above the pickguard at some point, now removed.

Otherwise this bass retains its original split-coil black bottom pickup which is healthy and sounds great. A fantastic sounding pre-CBS P-bass that has been played for good reason!

Includes a later period Stamford import case.
