Now available, an original late 1964 Fender Jazz Bass in its original 3-tone sunburst finish with tortoiseshell pickguard.
This example came from its original owner in the USA earlier this year, having been well played throughout its life as you can see. This late 1964 example still has a nicely grained brazillian rosewood fingerboard with clay dots, and an October neck date. This lines up with the 3x original stackpole pots dating to the 40th week of 1964.
At some point the original owner refinished the back of the neck, and oversprayed the headstock due to play wear. The original decal remains, as do the original frets and nut.
Otherwise most of the original parts remain except for the pickup and bridge covers. The original tortoisehell pickguard has no cracks, and the rest of the hardware is correct for '64 including the bridge, tuners, screws, bridge plate and strap buttons.
This one has been recently setup by Sydney luthier Piers Crocker with an added neck shim for optimum playability. The original frets are low, but playable up and down the neck.
A really great sounding original pre-CBS Fender Jazz Bass, includes its original white tolex case in fully functional condition.
